| Welcome to New Year poems - here's a couple of favourite New Year poems and readings. Well, the countdown has started, the holidays have arrived, with Christmas over a new beginning is in sight - January 1st, out with the old, in with the new! You will probably be familiar with the tune of this old favourite, Auld Lang Syne, but do you know all the words? Auld Lang Syne Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne? For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne, we'll take a cup of kindness yet, for auld lang syne. Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and days of auld lang syne? And here's a hand, my trusty friend And gie's a hand o' thine We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet For auld lang syne This poem is less well-known but paints a lovely picture of what we might wish our friends and loved ones as we enter the New Year:- May you have enough happiness to keep you happy. Enough trials to keep you strong. Enough sorrow to keep you human. Enough hope to keep you thoughtful. Enough failure to keep you humble. Enough success to keep you eager. Enough friends to give you comfort. Enough faith and courage in yourself to banish depression. Enough wealth to meet your daily needs. Enough determination to make each day a better day than yesterday. They'd make some great words for a New Years toast! Many thanks to David Boyce from South Wales for submitting the following poem:- New Years Eve This is the last day of the year they call it new years eve look back at all the memories this year you’re going to leave Some you will cherish always and keep for all it’s worth because someone close to you has been gifted with a birth Some others you wish to forget but know you never will for someone close passed over and some were never ill Some will be very pleasant and close to your heart sit down and list the good things back to january make a start So when you feel unhappy in the new upcoming year sit down and read your memories and smile from ear to ear Don’t ponder on the bad things now only tears will be shed for tomorrow is a new start a new year is ahead A New Year's Wish by Helen Van Anderson Gordon May each day bring thee something Fair to hold in memory-- Some true light to shine Upon thee in the after days. May each night bring thee peace, As when the dove broods o'er The young she loves; may day And night the circle of A rich experience weave About thy life, and make It rich with knowledge, but radiant With Love, whose blossoms shall be Tender deeds.
